Harrison Bader had four hits, Francisco Lindor broke a tie with a two-run home run in the seventh inning, and the visiting New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-4 on Friday to extend their winning streak to five games. The Mets triumphed for the seventh time in eight games, improving to 11-3 following a 0-5 start, behind three RBIs from DJ Stewart. For the Dodgers, Chris Taylor delivered a two-run single after emerging from a 0-for-31 slump. Los Angeles fell for the sixth time in their last eight games despite a run scored and another driven in by Shohei Ohtani.

It was the first game of a three-game series. Lindor’s two-run home run off right-hander Daniel Hudson (1-1) in the seventh inning gave New York their second victory of the season after they had previously lost a 4-0 lead. Stewart singled in a run in the ninth inning after Starling Marte had delivered a two-run single in the eighth. In five innings, Sean Manaea, the starting pitcher for the Mets, allowed two runs on four hits, three strikeouts, and three walks. Reed Garrett (3-0) grabbed the win despite giving up two unearned runs in his lone inning of work.

With a third home run from Stewart off of Yoshinobu Yamamoto and an RBI single from Bader, the Mets led 2-0 in the second inning. In the third inning, Stewart’s sacrifice fly and Pete Alonso’s RBI single gave New York a 4-0 lead. From then on, Yamamoto settled in to finish his first six-inning game in the Major Leagues. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits, struck out nine, and walked one.

With two outs in the fourth inning, Ohtani walked, swiped second base, and scored on a Teoscar Hernandez single to spark the Dodgers’ rally, which narrowed the deficit to 4-1. Ohtani’s RBI single in the fifth inning gave Los Angeles another run. With a runner in scoring position, it was only his second hit in 20 at-bats.
