On June 26, 2026, DC STUDIOS AND Warner Bros. will present Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in theatres. Craig Gillespie is directing the movie, which stars Milly Alcock as Supergirl, or Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin.

After Superman: Legacy in 2025, this is the second movie to be scheduled for release since Peter Safran and James Gunn were hired to rework upcoming DC cinematic adaptations. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Supergirl is set to begin filming this autumn. Director Andy Muschietti is also working on a Batman film for DC Studios.

The story for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow was written by Ana Nogueira, who drew inspiration from a comic book published in 2022 with illustrations by Bilquis Evely and written by Tom King. The new version of the character will not be the same as the one who portrayed the same role on the CW series of the same name. In 1984, Warner Bros. released a Supergirl film with Helen Slater as the lead and Faye Dunaway as the antagonist.

Last year, Gunn explained to reporters, “In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
