Qualcomm Launches a Chip to Enable more Indians to Access 5G Smartphones

On July 30, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 system-on-a-chip, which it hopes will enable 5G for the world’s 2.8 billion smartphone users. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is likely to be available in a smartphone from Xiaomi that will be unveiled before the end of the year. Its purpose is to enable gigabit 5G on handsets that cost less than $99 dollars.

“The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 Mobile Platform is a significant leap forward in making 5G technology more accessible, so more people can navigate the world at 5G speeds,” explained Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

“We are excited to be working with Qualcomm Technologies to enable access to gigabit-fast connectivity for users” explained Muralikrishnan B, President, Xiaomi India. “Many people have yet to experience the benefits of 5G, and thanks to Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, Xiaomi can bring 5G connectivity to a broader audience to help reshape the way the world connects and interacts.”

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2: Details

With two Kryo Prime cores (based on the A78 architecture) and six Kryo efficiency cores (based on the A55 architecture), the system-on-a-chip has an octa-core CPU design.
