On Wednesday, the MG Windsor electric vehicle (EV) was introduced in India. The Windsor EV, according to the British automaker, is the first “intelligent CUV,” or crossover utility vehicle. The UK’s Windsor Castle served as the model for its name. It is a rebadged version of the Wuling Cloud EV, sold in Indonesia and other markets, and is based on the company’s “Pure EV” platform. It has an impressive range of up to 331 km, Aero Lounge seats, an Infinity View glass roof, voice commands based on artificial intelligence (AI), and over 80 connected features that utilise i-SMART technology.
It joins the MG ZS EV and Comet EV as the company’s electric car alternatives. It is the first vehicle launched since JSW MG Motor India was established as a joint venture between China-based SAIC Motor and India’s JSW Group.
MG Windsor EV Price in India
The starting price of the MG Windsor EV in India is Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Pre-orders are already open, and on September 26 there will be an exclusive test drive of the car. On October 3, reservations for the MG Windsor EV will open.
It is available in four colourways (Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige, and Turquoise Green) and three variations (Excite, Exclusive, and Essence). Along with the release of the Windsor EV, MG also unveiled the Battery as a Service (BaaS) ownership scheme, which allows the customer to pay only for the battery’s consumption and does away with the initial cost. The battery cost for this scheme starts at Rs. 3.5 per kilometre.
Benefits of the lifetime battery guarantee will be available to MG Windsor EV first owners. Additionally, the business is providing free public charging through the eHUB by MG app for a whole year.
MG Windsor EV Design
The MG Windsor EV is a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) even though its AeroGlide design is similar to that of an MPV. With certain features borrowed from both sedan and sports utility vehicle (SUV) platforms, it can be thought of as a crossover. Its measurements are 1,850 mm in width, 1,677 mm in height, and 4,295 mm in length. When compared to the MG ZS EV, the EV’s 2,700 mm wheelbase may provide additional boot room for passengers.
The Windsor EV’s design features include integrated spoiler, flush-fitting door handles, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and headlamps and taillights stacked vertically. Beside the charging port on the front is an illuminated MG logo. Motivated by the Wuling Cloud EV, MG’s most recent electric vehicle in India also features a glass canopy, dubbed “Infinity View” by the manufacturer.
MG Windsor EV Features
A digital driver’s display, ambient lighting with 256 colour options, 135-degree multi-step reclining seats (also known as Aero Lounges), and a 15.6-inch primary infotainment screen with wireless support for Apple Carplay and Android Auto are just a few of the features available in the Windsor EV’s Knight Black interior.
The Windsor EV has a five-seater layout with 60:40 rear seat reclining. It also has an electrically actuated tailboard and a 604-liter cargo capacity.
The electric car uses the company’s i-SMART technology to provide over 80 linked automobile capabilities, including a digital Bluetooth key. In order to drive the car, users can share their keys with others via their smartphone, doing away with the requirement for a physical key exchange. It is supported by AI and can take voice commands.
MG Windsor EV Safety, Battery, and Powertrain
The Windsor EV is propelled by a single 200 Nm and 134 horsepower permanent magnet synchronous electric motor situated at the front axle. The corporation hasn’t disclosed its top speed, though. A 38-kWh lithium ferro-phosphate (LFP) cell battery, which is comparable to the battery technology used in the MG ZS EV, is what makes this feasible.
The MG Windsor EV has a 360-degree camera and a Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) for safety. Six airbags, disc brakes, electronic stability control (ESC), an electronic parking brake with auto-hold capability, and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) are all included as standard features.
