Users may soon be able to exchange high-quality photos over RCS using Google Messages. Some beta users are reportedly able to access the feature at this time. It is comparable to WhatsApp’s HD image-sharing feature, which allows users to transfer images in two different formats: standard with the most compression and HD with the lowest. Google began supporting Ultra HDR photos in the Messages app around the end of 2023. It produces a better image even though it uses more data.
Google Messages HD Photo Sharing
Google Messages is testing a feature that would enable users to share photographs with little to no compression. According to the report, in the most recent Messages beta (version messages.android_20241029_00_RC00.phone_samsung_openbeta_dynamic), an HD and an HD+ option were observed in the Photo Picker of the app.
While the HD+ option will enable Messages users to share an image in its original quality, without compression, the HD option will enable users to share images more quickly but with a lower quality. But the latter will also take a comparatively longer time to send and use more data than the former.
A checkmark icon will show up on the bottom right corner of the image once users have chosen the resolution they wish to share it in. It is anticipated that the capability will soon be available to all Messages users.
A feature that lets users amend RCS messages up to 15 minutes after sending them was added to Google Messages earlier this year. WhatsApp offers a comparable feature. Notably, WhatsApp does not offer an HD+ option for image sharing; instead, it just offers an HD choice in addition to the Standard one.
Google also released a number of Messages app enhancements in September to enhance user privacy and shield users from shady calls and messages.
