Uber and Delta Air Lines announce a significant relationship

During his keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday, CEO Ed Bastian of Delta and CEO Dara Khosrowshahi of Uber Technologies formally announced that the two businesses have reached an agreement to enter into a multi-year travel relationship that will begin this spring.

Through the new initiative, SkyMile members of Delta will be able to accrue miles when they order Uber Eats and ride an Uber.

The agreement will also provide Uber users with a number of advantages, such as better Uber pickup and drop-off options at Delta hubs.

Customers will be able to link their Uber and Skymiles accounts when the new alliance launches, though no official timetable has been given yet.

Uber users will be able to use their SkyMiles to book hotel rooms, shop at participating businesses, and reserve or upgrade Delta flights once their accounts from the various companies are linked.

Uber Eats will allow users to earn Delta SkyMiles at a rate of one mile for every dollar spent on meals and groceries totaling $40 or more.

For every dollar spent on UberX transportation to and from airports, ridesharing users can also earn one SkyMile. Customers will receive three miles for every dollar spent on Uber Reserve trips and two miles for every dollar spent on Uber Comfort and Uber Black while using premium rides.
