Elon Musk’s xAI Launches the Grok Chatbot App

Grok, a standalone consumer app developed by Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence (AI) startup xAI, provides access to the company’s named chatbot.

According to its description in the Apple App Store, Grok Beta for iOS provides free access to xAI’s most recent model, Grok 2.

According to the description, “Grok is an AI-powered assistant, developed by xAI, designed to be maximally truthful, useful, and curious.” “To better understand your world, get answers to any question, create eye-catching images, and upload pictures.”

The description highlights the app’s “engaging and humorous” conversational tone, real-time information fueled by its access to up-to-date data from the web and Musk’s social media platform, X, image generation, and privacy focus.

On Thursday, January 9, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) stated that the chatbot was previously exclusively accessible through X. The report claims that there is no subscription option for the new software and that it is available for free. The product was in beta testing and was scheduled for release in the United States, according to its description in the Apple App Store.

As reported by PYMNTS on December 15, the Grok app was released after a free version of the chatbot was made available to all X users.

“We have been quietly testing a new Grok-2 model version over the past few weeks, which is three times faster and offers improved accuracy, instruction-following, and multilingual capabilities,” xAI stated in a blog post on December 12.

The article also stated that although the updated version is free for all X users, Premium and Premium+ users have access to any new features first and have higher usage caps.

In a Series C fundraising round, xAI raised $6 billion to assist the development of its cutting-edge AI systems, the company stated on December 23.

In a Dec. 23 statement, xAI stated that the money raised from this financing round would be used to “accelerate the research and development of future technologies enabling the company’s mission to understand the true nature of the universe, ship groundbreaking products that will be used by billions of people, and further accelerate our advanced infrastructure.”
