In a phone interview on Wednesday, former Boise State quarterback Hank Bachmeier informed that he will transfer to Louisiana Tech.

Bachmeier started all four years for Boise State, but he left the team before playing in the Broncos’ fifth game this season. As a result, he has two full eligibility years.

He chose coach Sonny Cumbie’s quarterback-friendly Ruston system, where he can continue his development. He plans to enroll in the spring and compete for the starting position in 2023.

“I wanted to play in the Air Raid and in a pass-friendly offense,” Bachmeier told. “I think Coach Cumbie and his track record are a great fit. It’s an offense that any quarterback would want to play in.”

At Boise, Bachmeier started 29 games, including victories over No. 1 and Florida State in 2021 and a win at Florida State his freshman year. No. 10 BYU and State of Fresno, 25 During his four years at Boise State, he threw for 6,605 yards, including 41 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

Bachmeier kept coming back to Cumbie’s offensive acumen as he looked at his options, which Cumbie had learned from Mike Leach and Kliff Kingsbury. At Texas Tech, Cumbie’s offenses frequently threw for more than 4,000 yards per season.

“I asked a bunch of people,” Bachmeier said, “and not once did anyone say a bad thing about Coach Cumbie. He got rave reviews.”
