Tony winners Joe DiPietro and Kathleen Marshall have signed on to write and direct a new stage musical based on the life of Grammy- and Emmy-winning songwriter Diane Warren.
This is the second project that DiPietro-Marshall has announced in recent weeks: They are also working on a stage musical about Frank Sinatra.
The songs “Rhythm of the Night,” “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” “If I Could Turn Back Time,” “Unbreak My Heart,” “Because You Loved Me,” and “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” will all be included in “Obsessed, The Story of Diane Warren…So Far.” There will also be a few brand-new Warren songs on the show.
Warren stated in a statement, “Broadway is a new chapter for me and to work with such amazing artists like Kathleen Marshall and Joe DiPietro makes me excited to see where this will lead,”
This month, Obsessed will be presented in private in New York. The musical is being produced by Irit TenHengel, and Donna Munday is serving as executive producer.
Warren is the author of nine #1 hits as well as 32 Top 10 hits. Her songs have been featured in more than 100 films and on recordings by Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Aerosmith, Cher, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and others. Warren, who has been nominated for 13 Oscars, was awarded an Honorary Oscar earlier this year.
DiPietro is best known for his roles in Diana and Nice Work If You Can Get It, for which he won two Tony Awards (for book and score). Her Tony-winning choreography for the revivals of Wonderful Town, The Pajama Game, and Anything Goes are among Marshall’s numerous Broadway credits.
