Afghanistan Wins a Historic First Victory of South Africa

At the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, Afghanistan defeated South Africa for the first time in international cricket thanks to a masterful bowling performance. The 18-year-old wonder Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar and Fazalhaq Farooqi were the main players as Afghanistan defeated South Africa by six wickets.

After winning the toss, South Africa decided to bat first but were taken aback by Farooqi’s early strikes. After getting rid of Aiden Markram and Reeza Hendricks, the left-arm pacer went on to take out Tony de Zorzi. Then, Ghazanfar destroyed the middle order, dismissing Jason Smith, who was making his debut, and Tristan Stubbs for ducks in the same over.

South Africa was reduced to 29/5 and eventually collapsed to 36/7 when Kyle Verreynne was caught by Ghazanfar and Andile Phehlukwayo was run out. South Africa reached 106 all out thanks to a determined half-century from Wiaan Mulder and Bjorn Fortuin, but the low score was unable to confront Afghanistan.

South Africa had a good start with the ball, but they were unable to stop Afghanistan’s pursuit. Afghan history was made possible by an undefeated fifth-wicket stand between Azmatullah Omarzai and Gulbadin Naib, Afghanistan’s first victory against the Proteas in six meetings. Afghanistan’s increasing strength in international cricket is further demonstrated by their victory.

Afghanistan has now won at least one format against every side, with the exception of India and Nepal (who have only played one match each). In brief, Afghanistan defeated South Africa 107/4 in 26 overs (Gulbadin Naib 34, Azmatullah Omarzai 25, Bjorn Fortuin 2/22) and South Africa 106 all out in 33.3 overs (Wiaan Mulder 52, Bjorn Fortuin 16, Fazalhaq Farooqi 4/35).
