Apple Watch Ultra 3: A Major Leap Forward in Health Monitoring

According to recent sources, Apple’s long-awaited high blood pressure detection capability may be included in both the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Apple Watch Series 11, which are scheduled for release in September 2025.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg disclosed this week that Apple has plans to improve the Series line, Ultra, and Apple Watch SE—the three greatest versions now available on the market—as part of its 2025 schedule. Gurman says the more expensive models would both gain from a significant health update, but the Apple Watch SE 3 may be the only one receiving a facelift.

What might the health update for the Apple Watch entail? Gurman thinks “it’s likely” that both will have Apple’s expected high blood pressure detection, as well as strengthened satellite technology and 5G.

Although reports of high blood pressure monitoring on the Apple Watch are not new, this most recent leak may be the most convincing indication yet that 2025 is the year.

Late in 2024, Gurman gave an overview of the high blood pressure monitoring functionality, acknowledging that it will function similarly to the sleep apnea detection feature.

Importantly, because of the limitations of LED readings, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11 will not be able to provide you with precise blood pressure readings, either diastolic or systolic. Except for the Huawei Watch D2, which has a physical cuff, the majority of smartwatches have trouble providing reliable blood pressure readings. Rather, without providing specifics, Apple Watches will reportedly be able to tell users whether they are experiencing hypertension.

As Gurman explains, Apple is also still working hard on noninvasive blood-glucose tracking, something Cupertino has yet to achieve despite it being the holy grail of smartwatch innovation.
