The Colombian city of Barranquilla is home to the 6.5-meter-tall bronze statue of internationally renowned singer Shakira. Her dancing stance from songs like “Hips Don’t Lie” is depicted in the statue. Yino Marquez, a sculptor, and his pupils worked together to create the statue.
A video and images of the statue were posted by Shakira on Instagram on Wednesday. Posing in front of the statue in the photos were the 46-year-old’s parents. The mayor of Barranquilla was present at the unveiling ceremony as well.
The well-known singer also posted a photo of the informational plaque about her life and the statue that is located at its base. She is praised for having “a voice that moves masses” and her birthdate is mentioned on the plaque. It also showcases her charitable endeavors, which include founding the “Pies descalzos” foundation, which supports early childhood development and translates to “bare feet” in Spanish.
Here are the reactions of the singer’s followers to the images of her statue.
“Whoa! It’s stunning—it exactly looks like you! One user commented, “Your parents must be so proud!!”
“That’s amazing and well deserved Shakira because not only are you an incredibly talented artist, but you are a beautiful human being who has not forgotten her people and continue to do so much for them,” said another individual.
Popular songs by Shakira include Waka Waka, Loca, Rabiosa, and She Wolf. She was one of the celebrities with the most Google searches worldwide in 2023. This year, her song about her ex-husband Gerard Pique broke records on YouTube in Latin America.
