Big Profits For Emotions: “Inside Out 2” Makes A $155 Million Premiere

Inside Out 2, the animated follow-up from Disney and Pixar, broke box office records by taking in $155 million during its first weekend of release.

With this amount, the biggest debut of the year has surpassed both Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire ($80M) and Dune: Part Two ($82.5M).

Along with becoming the first film to launch over $100 million since Barbie in July of last year.

‘Inside Out 2’ topped international box office, earns $140M

With $140 million in revenue, Inside Out 2 also had a big influence at the global box office.

This amount was sufficient to overtake Frozen 2 as the highest-grossing overseas animated debut ever.

The movie achieved the second-biggest opening behind Disney’s Marvel blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, thanks in large part to its popularity across Latin America.

Globally, the movie has grossed $295M.

“Inside Out 2” represented a major victory for Pixar and theatres.

Inside Out 2’s popularity was a major win for Pixar as well as theatres.

Disney delivered films like Turning Red, Soul, and Luca straight to Disney+ during the pandemic, which caused problems for the animation company at the box office in previous years.

But as this release has shown, people are excited to see Pixar films again in theatres.

‘Inside Out 2’ ranked second in Pixar’s biggest debuts

Inside Out 2’s premiere is the second-biggest in Pixar history, after only Incredibles 2 and ahead of Finding Dory and Toy Story 4.

In a statement praising the film’s success, David A. Gross of the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research said, “This is a sensational opening by Pixar’s own exceptional standard for a follow-up sequel.”

Additionally, the movie has improved 2024’s overall box office results.

‘Inside Out 2’ fueled optimism for post-strike box office comeback

Inside Out 2’s popularity has helped to close the gap year-to-date from 26% to 23.8%. This weekend will be the first in 2024 for all films combined to gross over $200 million.

As for the future, IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond said, “With the phenomenal opening of Inside Out 2 — which exceeded some projections by nearly 50% — and big advance tracking on a number of forthcoming releases, the post-strike comeback is officially on.”
