- First major update for crossover since launch in 2022
- Also expected to get a lower-spec model
On July 10, the BYD Atto 3 will be introduced in India with an update for 2024. It is anticipated that the update would include two new interior colour schemes, a larger 15.6-inch spinning infotainment system display, and a new hue called Cosmos black.
The more significant development is that BYD can now exceed the 2500 unit cap placed on CBU and SKD models thanks to its ARAI homologation certification. It’s also anticipated that this certification would assist BYD in changing the model of the car from an SKD to a CKD, which will lower the price.
A lesser spec variation will be the source of the price reduction. It has a 264 km stated range on the same battery pack. On the other hand, the fully charged Atto 3’s stated range on a full charge is now 512 km, and this could increase even more if BYD releases an extended-range model with a WLTP range of 565 km.
For the Chinese manufacturer, the Seal has been a quiet success over the past two years, making them well-known to consumers who are prepared to shell out a hefty sum of money for an entirely new kind of electric vehicle. Although it presently commands a premium price, it will eventually face competition from vehicles like the Tata Harrier EV, the Mahindra BE series, as well as vehicles from Toyota, Volkswagen, and Skoda.
