Disney’s Prequel has Been Revealed in the Trailer for New Mufasa: The Lion King

The final trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King, the prequel and sequel to the 2019 live-action reimagining of the classic animation film The Lion King, has been published by Disney.

Mufasa: The Lion King, which was written by Jeff Nathanson and directed by Barry Jenkins of Moonlight, will be released in theatres on December 20, 2024. The voices of Aaron Pierre as Mufasa, Tiffany Boone as Sarabi, Kagiso Lediga as Young Rafiki, Preston Nyman as Zazu, Mads Mikkelsen as Kiros, Thandiwe Newton as Eshe, John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner as Timon are among those who will be lending their voices to the upcoming movie.

What Happens in the Mufasa: The Lion King Trailer?

The final trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King begins with Pumbaa and Timon taking over the screens, transporting viewers back to the time before the beloved characters called Pride Rock their home. The trailer then shows Rafiki narrating a tale about an orphan named Mufasa and a prince named Taka (now known as Scar) as they set out on a perilous journey to find a new home.

The official synopsis reads as follows: “Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.”

Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, Donald Glover, Blue Ivy Carter, Braelyn Rankins, Theo Somolu, Folake Olowofoyeku, Joanna Jones, Thuso Mbedu, Sheila Atim, Abdul Salis, Dominique Jennings, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and Lennie James make up the remaining voice cast.

On December 20, Mufasa: The Lion King will be released in theatres.
