The “Local” tab is intended to compile content from several Facebook features. It is presently undergoing testing in ten US cities, including New York and Los Angeles.
This covers local groups, events, and the Marketplace for resale.
This new feature’s premise is similar to Nextdoor’s, with the goal of giving users a convenient location on the site from which to observe their local community in its entirety.
‘Explore’ tab: A personalized content hub
Facebook is also working on a “Explore” option that looks a lot like an Instagram feature.
Depending on the interests of each user, a personalised page with suggested images, movies, and other original content will be displayed.
According to the firm, the Explore tab will feature information from “real people and expert communities,” giving users access to a wide range of subjects like DIY projects and travel advice.
Facebook’s response to TikTok’s popularity
A full-screen video stream that replicates TikTok’s For You page is being introduced by Facebook in response to the platform’s growing popularity.
This feature will gather live, lengthy, and short videos in one place.
According to the corporation, watching videos takes up 60% of young adults’ time on the site these days.
Facebook promises a “turbo-charged” recommendations system for this new video stream in order to capitalise on this trend.
Messenger Communities: A new way to connect
Facebook’s messaging program Messenger will soon receive a big update that includes Messenger Communities.
With this feature, users can build several chatrooms based on different themes under a larger theme, much like in Slack or Discord.
Users now have a new way to connect and discuss on Facebook—they may create these chats without requiring members of an existing group to participate.
