- Suspension and off-road hardware explained
- 4×4 available with manual and AT options
Introduction
A five-door variant of the Thar, the Thar Roxx was introduced by Mahindra with substantially more equipment, such as 4×4 and ADAS. The new M_Glyde platform, upon which the Roxx is built, is claimed to be forty kilogrammes lighter than its forerunner. Next, high-strength steel is claimed to have been used in the construction of the body shell, which includes the metal hard top. Here are additional specifics regarding the new off-road vehicle on the block’s technical characteristics.
Proportions
The SUV has a departure angle of 36.1 degrees and an approach angle of 41.7 degrees despite its enormous size. These will prove advantageous when not driving. Moreover, the SUV has a 650mm water-wading depth and a ramp-over angle of 23.9 degrees.
Suspension and dampers
The Thar Roxx is suspended via a Penta Link system beneath the skin. It has a rigid axle coil spring rear suspension with Watts linkage and an independent front suspension with double wishbones. Additionally, it has multi-tuning valve-centric land (MTV-CL) dampers and a hydraulic rebound stopper (HRS) to provide frequency-dependent damping (FDD). These are supposed to enhance the SUV’s overall riding comfort.
Xplor and 4Xplor
Regarding its off-road capabilities, the Thar Roxx RWD provides Xplor with terrain modes that can be selected for mud, sand, and snow. The 4Xplor system, which has an electronic locking differential and an electronic brake locking differential, is fitted in the 4×4 versions, on the other hand. These three terrain modes are also available, although they include 2H, 4H, and 4L modes instead of the three-door version.
CrawlSmart and IntelliTurn
The automatic version of the Thar Roxx additionally comes with CrawlSmart and IntelliTurn, two assistance features. Under the previous setup, the SUV’s speed could be adjusted by the driver between 2.5 and 30 kmph, and the car would keep that pace on its own without any input from the user. For assistance with steering at low speeds, the IntelliTurn feature locks the back inner wheel. When using this feature, the driver must be travelling at less than 15 mph for 15 seconds while the electronic locking differential is deactivated.
Powertrain options
Regarding its drivetrain, the 2.0-liter mStallion turbo-petrol engine that produces 160 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque is offered for the base Thar Roxx model. The 2.2-liter diesel mHawk engine powering the RWD diesel produces 150 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque. Each engine is coupled to a manual six-speed gearbox. The more potent 2.0-liter engine paired with a six-speed torque converter powers the top-spec and petrol AT models. However, the petrol models do not come with a 4×4 option. In the meanwhile, there are two tuning states available for the Thar Roxx diesel automatics. The brochure states that top-spec vehicles come with 171 horsepower and 370 Nm, which is the same as the other potent Scorpio-N, or 150 horsepower and 330 Nm.
