The general registration period for the MyDigital ID programme will open in March 2024, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI). The system is globally renowned with EAL3+ accreditation, and its agency, MIMOS Berhad, underlined that it is outfitted with cryptography-based security to guarantee the safety of personal data.
In summary, MyDigital ID functions as an online identification mechanism that enables people of Malaysia easy access to a range of digital government services. This project is a joint effort by MOSTI and MIMOS Berhad, the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), and it is overseen by the Malaysian Administrative Modernization and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU).
According to the ministry, the implementation’s goal is to improve online transaction security while facilitating access to a range of digital services. People can access different services without having to deal with the burden of several logins by integrating the online verification procedure, which also facilitates digital contacts with government entities. Along with guaranteeing that the system won’t gather or retain user personal data, MOSTI also promised that it won’t save any biometric data.
All government personnel can currently register for a MyDigital ID. More information regarding the registration kiosk’s location will be made available by MIMOS on the initiative’s official website once it is widely accessible.
