Natasha Jonas tops Patricia Berghult to become WBC, WBO junior middleweight champion

It took Natasha Jonas three attempts to become a world champion. Presently, she’s one step nearer to binding together the whole junior middleweight division.

Jonas beat Patricia Berghult 100-90, 100-90, 99-91 to become the WBC and WBO champion of the world Saturday on the undercard of the Liam Smith-Hassan Mwakinyo card in Liverpool, England on Saturday.

It was the third consecutive success for the 38-year-old Jonas (12-2-1, 8 KO) and first defense of the WBO title she won in February. It was the first loss of Berghult’s career in her initial defense of the WBC title.

The 28-year-old Berghult (15-1, 3 KO) had traveled to battle in England – – where Jonas is from – – for the first time in her career. Jonas has still never battled professionally outside her home country, as indicated by BoxRec.

The WBA champion in the division, Hannah Rankin, is scheduled to make the second defense of her title Sept. 24 when she fights former junior lightweight boss Terri Harper in Nottingham, England. The IBF champion, Marie-Eve Dicaire, still can’t seem to battle in 2022.
