The No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats defeated the visiting Georgia State Panthers 105-76 in Lexington, Kentucky, on Friday thanks in large part to a team-high 19 points from Jaxson Robinson. Kentucky (7-0) surpassed the 100-point mark for the fourth time this season with 17 points and six assists from Lamont Butler. The Wildcats made 40 of 67 (59.7%) field goals, led by Amari Williams with 14 points, Otega Oweh with 12, and Andrew Carr and Koby Brea with 10 points each. With 21 points, Cesare Edwards led Georgia State (4-4) while Zarique Nutter scored 19. Malachi Brown helped the Panthers, who have lost two of their last three games, with 11 points and five assists.
Nutter made a mid-range jumper early in the first half to cut Kentucky’s lead to 11-10, but Robinson’s basket started the Wildcats’ 9-0 scoring run. With 5:06 remaining in the first half, Georgia State cut its deficit to two points after five consecutive points. After holding the Panthers scoreless for three minutes, Kentucky went on a 13-0 run, which was capped off by a 3-pointer from Kerr Kriisa, giving the Wildcats a 44-29 lead. After Robinson’s dunk increased Kentucky’s advantage to 18, Nick McMullen reduced the Panthers’ deficit to 48-33 at the half. The Wildcats went 19 for 28 (67.9 percent) from the field in the first half, with 13 points from Butler leading the way.
In the first half, Nutter scored 12 points to lead Georgia State. With 13:34 left, the Panthers forced a Kentucky timeout with a 20–11 scoring spree that included back-to-back baskets from Nutter and McMullen. Oweh’s dunk with 11:23 remaining gave Kentucky a 71-56 lead after they went on a 10-3 run. With successive 3-pointers by Brea and Robinson, Kentucky pulled away for good with a 20-6 run after Toneari Lane’s 3-pointer had brought Georgia State within 12 points.
