ZTE-affiliated Nubia has been teasing the Nubia Flip 5G, the company’s first folding smartphone. It doesn’t seem to be a brand-new foldable phone, though. The gadget appears to be a rebranded ZTE Libero Flip, which made its debut in Japan a few days ago, according to the teaser image.
The Nubia Flip 5G will essentially be the international version of ZTE’s Libero Flip if that is accurate and there are no internal modifications. With Nubia’s teaser image revealing the same circular outer display as the Libero Flip, the only thing we currently know about the two phones is that they both have the same clamshell design. Additionally, the image demonstrates how identical the two devices’ vertical folding mechanism and primary display are.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC will be found in Nubia’s first folding smartphone, if no internal alterations are made. With four performance cores and four efficiency cores, it is an eight-core CPU. The Nubia Flip 5G is probably going to have the same processor and storage configuration as the Libero Flip, which has 128 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM.
In addition, the ZTE Libero Flip sports two 50 MP main cameras on its back. Its 16 MP selfie camera is located inside a punch-hole cutout on the front. The foldable phone has a 4,310 mAh battery that supports Power Delivery 3.0, Quick Charge 4+, and 33W rapid charging. These are the anticipated specifications for the Nubia Flip.
The Libero Flip made headlines for being the least expensive folding smartphone in terms of price. The phone costs JPY39,800 (about $265) upon launch, but without the rebate, it costs about $420 (2023 Motorola Razr, currently $499.99 on Amazon). Whether the Nubia Flip will cost similarly is still unknown. The good news is that there won’t be much waiting because MWC is almost approaching.
