Bedard scores Chicago’s 100th NHL point, while Sharangovich assists on a shorthanded goal.
CHICAGO — At United Center on Monday, the Calgary Flames defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 thanks to two goals and an assist from Jakob Pelletier.
The Flames (21-14-7) have won three straight and four of six games, and Rory Kerins earned two assists in his NHL debut, while Yegor Sharangovich had a short-handed goal and an assist. 23 saves were made by Dustin Wolf.
For the Blackhawks (14-28-2), who have dropped three straight games and four of five (1-4-0), Connor Bedard scored his 100th NHL point with a goal. 31 saves were made by Petr Mrazek.
The opening period began at 1:14 when Pelletier gave Calgary a 1-0 lead. After receiving a drop feed from Kerins, he blasted with his wrist past Mrazek’s stick and through defenseman Seth Jones’ legs. On his first NHL shift, Kerins scored the point.
At 2:38, Louis Crevier moved in from the point and scored on a wrist shot from the top of the right face-off circle to tie the score at 1-1.
After Kevin Bahl’s long shot was rebounded, Pelletier gave the Flames a 2-1 lead. Kerins received his second help.
At 14:08, Matt Coronato scored off a goalmouth scramble to increase the lead to 3-1.
At 1:55 of the second, Jake Bean forced it to 4-1. Bean tapped in the rebound after Sharangovich’s shot went off the end board.
When Martin Pospisil of Calgary was sent out for a five-minute boarding major and game misconduct, Bedard scored from the right circle to trim the score to 4-2 with a power-play goal at 11:29.
In the 5-2 final, Sharangovich scored on the penalty kill at 13:38.
