The fifth vehicle in Citroen’s India lineup, the Basalt coupe SUV, will go on sale in the upcoming weeks, according to the French automaker. On August 2, the automaker will formally introduce the SUV, which will compete with models like the Tata Curvv. Citroen has been gradually exposing the specifications of the Basalt SUV in advance of its launch. The automaker has released a new teaser film featuring additional interior features of the Basalt SUV. The automaker had already revealed a few external design teasers for the SUV.
Citroen Basalt SUV: Interior design and features
The instrument panel and other dashboard components are visible in the most recent teaser video for the Citroen Basalt coupe SUV. The infotainment screen on the Basalt will resemble the one found in the automaker’s C3 Aircross. It looks to be the same 10.2-inch screen that is available with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The Basalt coupe SUV’s computerised driver display is also visible in the teaser film. It presumably has a diameter of seven inches and resembles the C3 Aircross small SUV in appearance. The air conditioning control buttons are among the other items that have been exposed. These knobs are situated on the dashboard beneath the air conditioning vents. Previous teaser videos have shown that the SUV will offer side support for the headrests and armrests for both front and rear seat occupants, among other interior features. There are cupholders and a phone holder on the back armrest.
The Basalt SUV may come equipped with six airbags, cruise control, automated climate control, and wireless phone charging, among other amenities.
Citroen Basalt SUV: Exterior design
The Basalt SUV’s external design will include a coupe profile, a trait not found in any of the previous vehicles the automaker introduced in India. Key features included in teaser videos include the iconic LED DRLs and projector headlamps, the C-shaped wraparound LED taillights, and the classic Citroen badging on the hood. It will be supported by a set of all-black alloy wheels that are perhaps sixteen inches in diameter.
Citroen Basalt SUV: Engine, transmission
Citroen is probably going to use the same 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine used in the C3 Aircross SUV under the hood of the Basalt SUV. Both an automatic torque converter gearbox and a six-speed manual gearbox are probably going to be paired to the engine. It can produce a maximum torque of 215 Nm and 115 horsepower.
Citroen Basalt SUV: Key rivals
In the small SUV market, the Citroen Basalt will compete against vehicles like the Tata Curvv. Despite not being the manufacturer’s debut model in the market, the Basalt seeks to dominate the newly emerging coupe SUV market, which is not overly crowded. The Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, and other leaders in the compact segment will be rivalled by the Basalt.
