Secrets of laryngeal care by Farshid Adhami, a famous Iranian musician and singer

For those who deal with singing, narration, voice acting and their voice in general, the larynx is undoubtedly one of the most important and valuable assets. That is why taking care of the larynx and vocal cords is so important and vital.

It can be roughly said that vocal cords have a mechanism for producing sound like a musical instrument. If we want to compare the guitar with the human vocal system, we must say that the larynx in the human vocal system is similar to the guitar strings. All the components that are placed in our head and face and help to produce sound are the same as the chamber and the body of the guitar. The muscles around our mouth, face, and lungs are actually the player’s hands that make the sound. This analogy was made only to let you know that sound disorders are not always related to the larynx and vocal cords, and just like the guitar, if any of the parts that help the larynx have a problem, the voice and speech will also have a problem.

The slightest damage to the larynx and vocal cords or other parts of the body reduces the reader’s ability and efficiency. Therefore, the lifestyle of the readers should be such that their body and voice remain healthy. Adequate sleep, exercise and exercise in the fresh air and proper nutrition are some of the things that should be included in the daily routine.

You also need to do regular exercises to get the sound to the desired level and keep it at that level. One of the important exercises that prevents possible injuries to the larynx during training and training is warming up the sound (Warm up) before training and reading.

Part of the sound is adjusted in the nose. If the nose is stuffy, the sound will be hoarse, which is often caused by a cold or sinusitis, which must first be resolved and the pressure on the larynx must be avoided.

Another part of the sound is regulated in the lungs. If the lungs are not strong enough, the sound may be hoarse, muffled, or so-called lifeless, in which case abdominal breathing exercises can be used to help. Children naturally have abdominal breathing and their diaphragm is not moving when they breathe. Adults also breathe with their abdomen during sleep and their abdomen goes up and down while their chest is not moving, but unfortunately many adults breathe with their chest in a standing position and cannot vibrate properly due to the excessive airflow of the vocal cords. And the tuning and quality of the singer’s voice becomes undesirable. The diaphragm also tightens and the chest and shoulders are pulled up. The neck and scapula muscles also contract.

Special attention should be paid to proper breathing when starting training. Some teachers advise their students to imagine a hypothetical belt consisting of a large number of noses on the abdomen and above the navel. In this way, the student feels a deep breath in the abdomen and the tension and pressure on the muscles of the neck and larynx is removed.

But laryngeal diseases are very important and should be taken very seriously and treated immediately. To produce the right sound, the vocal cords must have the right vibration. To create vibration, the material of the filament mucosa must be good and the moisture content must be appropriate to produce a good sound.
