In August, Swiggy, a food delivery platform, announced an industry-first ‘Moonlighting policy’ and allowed its employees to work on other projects under certain conditions after working hours.
Days after Swiggy’s announcement, Rishad Premji, Wipro chairman, termed the concept of moonlighting as cheating. Wipro has taken a tough stand against employees involved in moonlighting and sacked 300 employees. But, Moonlighting gets the government’s thumbs up. Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that Companies that try to prevent employees from working on their startups or consulting for other firms are undertaking a “doomed-to-fail exercise”.
