December Pixel update: New features are available with Android 14 QPR1
The ability to force an app into a particular aspect ratio on the Pixel Fold and Tablet is one of the most noteworthy enhancements made possible by the Android 14 QPR 1 upgrade.
For more customised viewing experiences, users can select between full screen, half screen, or 16:9 (on tablets) aspect ratios with this “experimental” function. Under Settings > Applications > Aspect Ratio, users can find this feature.
The update also adds new battery information, which can be found under Settings > About phone > Battery information. This information includes “Manufacture data” and “Cycle count.”
Aesthetics are also not overlooked in the makeover. With the addition of the “Metro” lock screen clock, Pixel owners now have access to nine different clock styles.
When switching backgrounds, the Wallpaper & Style area also adds a tiny particle effect. Improvements have also been made to the Pixel Launcher, which now features a more noticeable settings shortcut and adjusted search preferences.
Android 14 QPR1 uses a lighter background to differentiate between selected and unselected tiles, making it quicker to navigate Quick Settings. When your fingerprint isn’t recognised on the Pixel Tablet, a more conspicuous toast message displays, enhancing both security and usability.
Similarly, the World widget now shows the current temperature along with highs and lows, and the Clock app now provides the weather for the cities you’ve saved.
The December 2023 security patch fixes 33 vulnerabilities in the Android OS, ranging in severity from moderate to critical, in addition to the graphical and user interface adjustments. An additional 33 security patches are applied to Google devices, guaranteeing that your gadget is well-defended against any threats.
The following Pixel 5a, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Tablet, Fold, 8, and 8 Pro devices are now receiving the update. Go to Settings > System > System updates to manually check for the update.
