The World’s First Tri-fold Smartphone, the Mate XT Ultimate Edition, is Released by Huawei
Just hours after the iPhone 16 series was unveiled, Huawei appears to have taken Apple’s thunder by releasing the Mate XT Ultimate Edition, the first tri-fold smartphone in history. When folded, the 10.2-inch foldable OLED screen of the Mate XT, which has 3K quality, resembles a 6.4-inch smartphone. It unfolds to reveal a large 10-inch tablet when fully opened, and a 7.9-inch foldable smartphone when partially opened.
Huawei’s tri-fold technology eliminates the need for two screens—a foldable primary screen and a cover display—instead of using two screens and only one that folds at two different levels.
When fully extended, the device weighs 298 g and has a thickness of just 3.6 mm, making it among the thinnest smartphones available.
Huawei has used some cutting-edge technology, such as the utilisation of non-Newtonian fluid and an incredibly durable laminated structure, to accomplish this. The phone contains two hinges that are designed to keep their place and move smoothly in a single direction. The inner hinge resists compression, and the outer hinge resists tension.
The Mate XT Ultimate Edition’s processor is not disclosed by Huawei. The phone comes with HarmonyOS 4.2, and the CPU is probably based on the company’s proprietary Kirin 9000S, which also powers the non-folding flagship Mate 60 Pro+. Together with 256/512 or 1 TB of internal storage, the phone has 16 GB of RAM.
A 50 MP primary camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 12 MP telephoto lens with 5.5x optical zoom support make up the Mate XT’s camera unit. Additionally, a punch-hole cutout in the front houses an 8 MP selfie camera.
The phone has a large 5600mAh silicon carbon battery, which is supposedly the thinnest battery ever used on a smartphone, to assure an all-day battery life despite its thin 3.6mm design. 50W wireless and 66W fast wired charging are also supported by the phone.
