This Halloween, Horror Movie Enthusiasts Should Pay a Visit to Alamo

A horror movie enthusiast’s best friend is always Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.

That’s particularly true around Halloween, when this well-known theater chain’s San Francisco location manages to crank up the spook factor on an already extensive selection of horror films.

From “Beetlejuice” to “Basket Case,” Alamo has curated an eclectic lineup of gory, surreal movies for October.

As usual, the bulk of the shocks will come from Alamo’s weekly Terror Tuesday series, which brings in horror films from all over the Bay Area for nearly 52 weeks of the year. Highlights of the October schedule include Frank Henenlotter’s unsettling cult classic “Basket Case” on October 8 and 2007’s “Halloween II,” an incredibly underappreciated chapter in the bloated and exceedingly inconsistent franchise helmed by Rob Zombie that opens on October 15.

In addition, the theater is throwing a lot of fun movie parties. On October 13, for example, inflatable cricket bats will be distributed in honor of the zombie comedy “Shaun of the Dead,” with the goal being that attendees will be able to “smack your neighbor every time Shaun smacks a zombie onscreen.”

Fans can attend a “ghoulishly interactive screening (that) comes with Miss Argentina sashes, shrimp keychains, Beetlejuice stickers, and even sticky eyeballs” at the “Beetlejuice” movie party on October 16.
