According to reports, the electronics behemoth Apple, with its headquarters in Cupertino, plans to introduce tetraprism camera technology to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max next year. With regard to the Telephoto lens in particular, this innovation is expected to offer a minimum of 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom.
According to a recent rumour by The Elec, Apple may add LG Innotek as a supplier for the folding zoom module, which is an essential part of the technology. The goal of this calculated action is to guarantee high enough production yields to keep up with the rising demand for units.
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have different features. The former has a 12MP Telephoto camera with 3x zoom, while the latter has an improved Telephoto technology that allows for 5x zoom.
Tetraprism technology, as Apple calls it, is a folded glass structure found below the lens of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. With four light reflections in this design, the focal length is increased to 120mm.
MacRumors claims that Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, has regularly forecast that the tetraprism lens, which provides up to 5x optical zoom, will be included in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models for the upcoming year.
Additionally, according to rumours, the iPhone 16 Pro might have a larger 6.3-inch display than the iPhone 15 Pro’s 6.1-inch display. This possible enlargement might result in additional interior room, which would allow for the tetraprism lens.
Next year, Apple is reportedly planning to increase the size of the Pro-series iPhones. Like the iPhone 15, the regular iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models will continue to have a 60Hz display. With a 120Hz panel, the Pro versions should have a faster refresh rate.
According to the rumour, the company is also preparing a redesign for the normal iPhone 16 models, possibly going back to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini’s vertical camera configuration.
Furthermore, a new Action Button was included with the September releases of the iPhone 15 Pro models.
Remarkably, Apple did not include this function in the regular iPhone 15 models; instead, it was exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro versions. Although it’s not exactly a necessary feature, a different MacRumors source indicated that the Action Button might be included with the full iPhone 16 series in 2024.
