WhatsApp May Soon Acquire the Option to Mention Contacts in Status Updates and Reshare Content Similar to Instagram
The most popular messaging app in the world is WhatsApp, and millions of users rely on Meta-owned apps for daily communication. A couple of the most popular Instagram features have been brought to WhatsApp by Meta during the past few years, and it is now allegedly preparing to improve one of those features. Users of WhatsApp may soon be able to name users in their status updates, similar to the function on Instagram Stories, according to a report from WABetaInfo, a website that tracks new features on the network. Users who have been mentioned can also reshare the status update from their own account.
How the New Functionality on WhatsApp will Operate
WhatsApp users will have a new button that allows them to reshare status updates in which they are mentioned once the feature is implemented. Users will be able to ensure that, in accordance with their privacy settings, their own network can see the status updates in which they have been referenced.
Up until now, users have uploaded the status independently by taking a snapshot of the update or requesting that the original sharer provide them the media in private. The new function will streamline the laborious and complex procedure that can potentially lead to delays.
When is the New Feature Going to be Released?
Although the exact release date of the feature is unknown, WABetaInfo has discovered a new Instagram-like feature in the WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.24.9.16 upgrade. This implies that before the feature appears in the stable release, it can take some time.
