WhatsApp will Enable File Sharing Without Internet Access for iPhone Users

Through the TestFlight beta programme, WhatsApp has released an update that includes a noteworthy feature that is still in development: file sharing with nearby users.

The function, which goes under the moniker “People Nearby,” is still under development and will be available in a later app update.

The initial announcement of this feature came during the Android 2.24.9.22 WhatsApp beta.

Without requiring an internet connection, it enables users to share documents, images, movies, and other files with adjacent devices.

How it will differ from Android?

According to what was found in the most recent WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.15.10.70 firmware, the ‘People Nearby’ functionality is now being added to the iOS app.

The iOS version of the app requires scanning a QR code in order to begin file transfer, in contrast to its Android counterpart, which shares files by detecting nearby devices.

Large files, such high-resolution pictures, movies, and documents, will benefit from this file transfer method, especially in places with spotty or patchy network connectivity.

Cross-platform compatibility and security

‘People Nearby’ will function on iOS and Android devices as well as other platforms, so it doesn’t matter what kind of device users or their contacts are using.

Moreover, it guarantees compliance with end-to-end encryption, allowing only authorised users to view shared content.
