As reported by WABetaInfo, the well-known messaging service WhatsApp is developing a new feature that would let users transcribe voice communications right within the programme.
Although it was initially seen in an iOS beta, it is anticipated that Android users will also be able to access this feature.
Advanced speech recognition technology will fuel the transcription process, which will run locally on the user’s device and maintain end-to-end encryption.
How will the feature work?
Users will need to download an extra 150MB of app data in order to utilise this functionality.
Users can transcribe their voice messages after downloading this data, which could come in handy in circumstances where playing the voice recording is not possible.
By giving consumers the option to choose their favourite language for the transcripts, the transcription process will be greatly improved.
Transcription in multiple languages
Users will be able to select from five other languages in the next update: Hindi, English, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
Users will be asked to download an extra data package to help with transcribing after choosing a language.
By enabling transcripts to be processed locally on the device, this language-specific package will further improve user security and privacy.
WhatsApp’s new feature to enhance accessibility
WhatsApp has released a new feature that seeks to increase transcription accuracy using language-specific speech recognition and improve accessibility for users who interact in many languages. Additionally, users will be able to select multiple languages for individual voice notes as needed.
