Do you recall the days when Nokia phones had interchangeable faceplates? Nevertheless, Xiaomi has implemented that feature on a smartwatch for 2024, updating it. With the new Xiaomi Watch S3, which was unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, you can twist and remove the bezel surrounding the screen to give it a different style. The watch face will then automatically change to an exclusive one that goes well with it. It can also be matched with a fresh strap.
With the availability of Chrome Yellow, Rainbow, Dual-tone Ceramic, and Ocean Blue color schemes, not to mention at least black and off-white color strap options, you can truly alter the watch’s entire appearance with ease. You can select between a silver or black aluminum case when you purchase the smartwatch. More than 180 watch faces are already available for free, and more may be bought via Xiaomi’s app store. The images give a wonderful impression of the style adjustments.
Although it’s a unique feature, the Xiaomi Watch S3 is unique in other ways as well. The Watch S3 runs Xiaomi’s brand-new HyperOS software, as opposed to Google’s Wear OS, which was used by the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro. HyperOS, which was unveiled in 2023, is the successor to Xiaomi’s previous MIUI software. Despite being designed using Linux and the Vela system from Xiaomi, Android is still hidden below. HyperOS, like Huawei’s HarmonyOS, will eventually be available on the company’s smartphones and other smart ecosystem items, such as automobiles.
With HyperOS, you may use novel control methods including flicking or twisting your wrist to engage services like taking pictures, checking the weather, and accepting or rejecting calls. Xiaomi claims that a single charge will last roughly 15 days thanks to the combination of HyperOS and a 486mAh battery; however, the charging duration has not been disclosed as of this writing.
The smartwatch features a 47mm case size, a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen with 466 x 466 pixel resolution, and 5ATM water resistance. It uses a GPS, 150 sports modes, blood oxygen monitor, heart rate sensor, and sleep tracker to measure activity. It allows Bluetooth calling and works with both iOS and Android devices.
With its blend of software and performance, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro with Wear OS was a huge hit, readily competing with other smartwatches of a similar kind. It will be difficult for the Xiaomi Watch S3 with HyperOS to compete at this point. Where Xiaomi is positioning the Watch S3 in its lineup is unclear at this writing because the company has not disclosed a pricing. However, it will compete with a number of very good smartwatches that are currently on the market.
